2007 Hubbard One Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards
Recognize Top Legal Marketers
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29, 2007 - Hubbard One, a Thomson Elite business and the leading Web site consultancy for law firms, honored three law marketing leaders at the 2007 Hubbard One Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards. The awards were presented Jan. 25 at the 14th annual Marketing Partner Forum. Thomson Elite is part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and a worldwide provider of business software to professional services firms.
The Hubbard One Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards called for nominations for marketing partner, marketing director and marketing initiative of the year. Selected by a panel of independent judges, the 2007 winners have excelled in the areas of marketing results, leadership, message clarity and focus, innovation, sophistication and the ability to take decisive action.
Edward M. Schechter, chief marketing officer, Duane Morris LLP, earned the Marketing Director of the Year award. Schechter has grown his firm's small marketing team to a 45-member department during his tenure. He also introduced innovative and sophisticated marketing methods from the corporate world, creating measures for customer service levels and return on investment for time spent on business development.
W. Scott Sorrels, marketing partner, Powell Goldstein LLP, was selected as Marketing Partner of the Year. His "Execute Today" campaign educated his firm's lawyers on techniques to drive business to the firm. Sorrels also created a business development plan template, which the firm's attorneys used to accept accountability for increasing the firm's revenue.
The video podcast series by Torys LLP was chosen as the Marketing Initiative of the Year. The project leveraged new media technology in a half-dozen nonscripted video interviews with expert lawyers in the firm. The number of downloads far exceeded staff expectations, and at least one new client credited the podcasts as the reason for considering retaining Torys.
"Innovative marketing and successful business development practices have become more important to law firms over the last several years," said Jason Parkman, vice president, Business Development, Thomson Elite. "We hope these awards encourage firms to bring their marketing and business development efforts to the next level."
Sponsored by The Hildebrandt Institute and West LegalWorks, the Marketing Partner Forum was held January 25-26 at The Four Seasons Resort Aviara, North San Diego, Calif. The forum is the legal industry's leading conference on client development.
