Elite Image Connect from Thomson Elite Offers Integrated Image Scanning, Storage and Retrieval Capabilities
Microsoft .NET application automates linking images to transactions via Windows services and utilizes Web services to integrate applications
LOS ANGELES, May 22, 2006 – Thomson Elite, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and a worldwide provider of business software to professional services firms, has introduced Elite Image Connect, its new imaging application that helps firms become more paperless. The product is currently in beta implementations, with a general release date of July 31, 2006.
Image Connect is a completely stand-alone Microsoft .NET enterprise-wide imaging application featuring
- a Web interface to manage application and network image storage
- Microsoft SQL Server database for metadata storage
- Web services to integrate the application with financial and practice management systems
The software uses Windows Services to process scanned files for storage at preset destinations and link images to records and transactions in the database.
“Our new offering stands apart from other imaging applications because of its focus on making all the relevant data available in an integrated fashion,” said Dan Tacone, senior vice president, market segments, Thomson Elite. “Elite Image Connect is also the only product on the market that supports seamless integration with the Elite financial and practice management system.”
For example, within a firm’s accounting software system, a billing manager or accounts payable clerk can call up the image of a voucher without having to open Image Connect in a separate window. Rich query capabilities provide quick search results with the specific profiles a user needs. In addition, the easy-to-install software is hardware neutral, so it can be used with any network scanner.
Image Connect includes the following improvements over Thomson Elite’s existing imaging application, Image Processing Manager:
- Batch scanning
- Images stored as separate files on the firm’s network
- TIFF and PDF formats
- Color and black-and-white images
- Integration with any financial management application via Web services
Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP, a large California-based law firm, will be one of the first to roll out the application during the beta stage. “The technology vision at our firm is to be as paperless as possible, and we expect Elite Image Connect to bring us much closer to that goal,” commented Dan Funk, director of information technology at Mitchell Silberberg. “Being able to pull up invoices electronically eliminates hard copy retrieval fees, and batch scanning saves staff time, both of which impact our bottom line.”
